Sharing Practice: Cinema Rediscovered 2024

31 July 2024

The Box's Media Archivist, Stacey Anderson and Reimagining the Film Archive Discovery Media Assistant, Zahra Khanum were recently invited to be part of an 'Opening up the Archive' panel discussion, alongside colleagues from the BFI National Archive. The event was part of 'Cinema Rediscovered 2024' in Bristol - Watershed’s annual festival dedicated to the rediscovery and revival of great films.

The discussion focused on the role of UK film exhibitors and the value of working in partnership with national and regional moving image archives through screenings and access to collections.

It gave an opportunity for Stacey and Zahra to showcase some of the ways in which the moving image collections at The Box have been used for engagement and programming: through the Film Audience Network South West (FANSW) and in partnership with creative practitioners throughout the South West region.

The panel event also enabled them to start a dialogue about future partnership working and engagement and look at additional collaborative opportunities for sharing practice.

You can find out more about Cinema Rediscovered and see highlights from the 2024 event on the Watershed website. The dates for the 2025 event, which will include a mix of screenings, expert-led talks, Q&As, workshops and cinema walks are 23-27 July.
