Plymouth Sound is one of the world's most intensively studied marine environments, a living laboratory where groundbreaking research shapes global climate policy. Through Planet Ocean discover how our local waters contribute to worldwide ocean conservation and inspire positive change.

The exhibition uses the overarching themes of plankton, pollution, people and planet to share facts, scientific discoveries, objects and stories. From microscopic marine life to pressing environmental challenges, Planet Ocean offers both hope and practical ways to become an advocate for our seas.

Specimens, objects and artworks on display are drawn from the natural history, art and social history collections at The Box. We're pleased to be supported by leading institutions including the Marine Biological Association, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, University of Plymouth, and South-West based ocean conservation organisations to bring this story to life.

How inappropriate to call this planet ‘Earth’ when it is clearly ‘Ocean’.
