10.30am-12.30pm: Our Story with Fotonow and the University of Plymouth
Perfect for families! Come and tell us your story about where you live and what matters to you through drawing, mapping, stickers and more. Share your favourite places, feelings and ideas and create a colourful picture of what belonging to a place means to you.
10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm: Den World with WABKIN
Come and enjoy our immersive installation led by artists WABKIN (Fran Daykin and Huhtamaki Wab). ‘Den World’ is made from sustainable/recycled materials and is a welcoming space where children, young people and families can experiment with identity, storytelling, creativity, and community.
11-11.30am and 12-12.30pm: Data Walks with Nudge
See the city through new eyes! Join us for a creative data walk through Plymouth, exploring how local places, people and experiences can be understood. Along the way you’ll collect observations, map what you see and notice patterns, differences and stories in the landscape. We’ll start and finish at The Box.
1-4pm: Local Projects Showcase
Come over to the Explore More area next to The Box’s onsite shop to discover more about a selection of local community and housing projects.
2-4pm: Artist-Led Workshop: Creatures for Change
Join illustrator, Devon Tipping, to take a journey through Dartmoor folktales like the famous Old Crockern and create a ‘creature for change’. Imagine your own guardian spirit – something that speaks to your relationship with home, your current way of life, and the kind of life you’d like to live in the future.
This creative workshop is inspired by The Box’s The Way We Live exhibition and the 1946 Jill Craigie film of the same name. The film highlights how Plymouth’s city centre was shaped with people in mind after the Blitz.
With Plymouth’s city centre set to transform again through the Plymouth City Living Project, this workshop invites you to creatively reflect on the project and share your aspirations for its development. Can your creature find a home within the Plymouth City Living Project? Does the Plymouth City Living Project address your desires? What is working well and what can be recommended to change in the project? This is a space to be creative, play, and feel empowered to voice what you would like to see in the Plymouth City Living Project, along with exploring the wonders of Dartmoor mythology through collage and drawing.
This event will take place in the Urban Living Room at the University of Plymouth’s Levinsky Building and is perfect for adults and young people aged 16+. All materials will be provided. Free. Advance booking is essential.
