Visit our North Hall to chat to a range of ocean experts from local organisations and community projects and discover more about their work - from the people who are helping us learn about the importance of Plymouth Sound and plankton, to those who are bringing the world of sharks to us via VR and shining a light on the history of a unique fishing jumper.

Meet the Marine Park
Meet The Marine Park is the welcome centre for the UK's first national marine park, which is right here in Plymouth Sound! Take part in free science, history and art-based activities to learn all about your local area of ocean. Free. Drop in from 10.30am-3.30pm.
Plymouth Marine Laboratory
Meet scientists from Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) to find out why some of the smallest organisms in the ocean, called plankton, have such a big role to play in keeping the ocean healthy. Hear about the amazing technology the scientists work with to view these tiny plankton all the way from space! Free. Drop in from 10.30am-3.30pm. Also, join the stand for a special visit from the 'Plankton Lady' from 12-1.30pm.

The Shark Trust
Dive into the world of sharks with The Shark Trust's brand-new VR experience. You can experience swimming with incredible Great Hammerhead Sharks, encounter Caribbean Reef Sharks cruising around a shipwreck and observe Southern Stingrays on sandy seabeds - all without getting wet! The Shark Trust will also have a variety of shark artefacts for you to see up close and learn more about shark anatomy. Free. Drop in from 10.30am-3.30pm. VR headsets available between 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-3.30pm.
Fisherman’s Gansey
Find out more The Gansey Gathering, a unique project that is bringing back the lost, heritage fishing jumper known as ‘the gansey’ to Plymouth through teaching 60 people to knit their own on a free community knitting course. The ‘Janner Gansey’ design has been inspired by photos from The Box collections dating from the early 1900s. The project has been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and The Box. Free. Drop in from 10.30am-3.30pm.
