About the speakers
Osman Yousefzada is a British born, internationally recognised interdisciplinary artist and writer who describes his practice as auto ethnographic, where personal stories become political. His South Asian heritage is a strong influence in his craft-inspired, sculptural practice. Born in Birmingham, he creates work that reflects and questions the injustices he saw first-hand during his childhood and which still exist today. South Asian influences are what many might first see when they encounter his work but it is far broader and unravels pressing issues of our time including global histories, issues of power, colonialities, class and race.
Appointed in 2021, Habda Rashid is the first senior curator of Modern and Contemporary art at the Fitzwilliam Museum, advisor for the British School at Rome, Fine Art Faculty and a 2025 Turner Prize Jury member . Her broader research interests include examining how the post-colonial complexities of genealogies and geographies challenge existing histories of art to expand subject matter, ideas and media. Habda’s extensive experience of contemporary art, including roles at Kettle’s Yard, Create London and Whitechapel Gallery, has seen her commission new works and curate exhibitions with a wide range of artists including Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Michael Rakowitz, Theaster Gates and Mike Nelson.
