Engineering: Bridging the Tamar

Engineering: Bridging the Tamar

In this day long experience your students get to visit Plymouth’s two iconic bridges before becoming engineers themselves to investigate the STEAM behind Plymouth’s iconic structures.

This immersive experience includes a morning session at the Tamar Bridge Visitor and Learning Centre. Students enjoy a guided tour discovering how Isambard Kingdom Brunel designed the Royal Albert Bridge before returning to the visitor centre for hands-on bridge building experiments.

In the afternoon students visit The Box to use a range of maker technology to explore the engineering feats of Plymouth (including the lighthouse, the Breakwater and the Tamar Bridge). Applying STEAM to sound, light and construction activities students learn to solve design challenges.

This day-long workshop comprises two sessions, one at the Tamar Bridge Visitor and Learning Centre 10am-12pm and one at The Box 12pm-2pm. You are responsible for your own travel between the two sites, and your lunch space (12pm-1pm) is reserved at The Box.
