Engineering: Smeaton’s Tower

In this day-long experience your students will visit The Box, to learn about the STEAM behind Plymouth’s remarkable engineering structures before visiting the iconic Smeaton’s Tower on Plymouth Hoe.

This immersive day-long workshop comprises two sessions, one at the The Box from 10am-12pm with a reserved lunch space from 12pm-12.30pm and one at Smeaton's Tower from 1pm onwards. Please note visiting groups are responsible for travel between the two sites.

During the morning session at The Box students explore the engineering feats of Plymouth including Smeaton’s Tower, the Breakwater and the Tamar Bridge. Investigating the STEAM behind sound, light and construction design students will solve challenges before an exploration of the galleries.

In the afternoon students travel to Plymouth Hoe to visit the iconic Smeaton’s Tower, learning about its rich history and ground breaking design whilst enjoying amazing views of Plymouth Sound from the lantern room.
